The Best Time of Year for Umrah from the UK
Weather, crowds, prices and school holidays: how British Muslims can choose the right month for Umrah.

There is no bad time to answer the call to Umrah, but some months are easier than others. The right choice depends on what matters most to you: weather, price, crowds or your work and school calendar.
Weather month by month
| Months | Makkah daytime | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| November to February | Around 24 to 31°C | The most comfortable season |
| March to April | Around 29 to 35°C | Warm, usually busy around Ramadan |
| May to September | Often above 40°C | Very hot, quieter, lower prices |
| October | Around 35°C | Cooling down, good value |
Madinah is a few degrees cooler and can be chilly at night in December and January, so pack a light jacket.
When Umrah is not possible
Umrah visas are generally paused for international pilgrims for several weeks around the Hajj season. In 2027 Hajj is expected in mid May, so the May half-term is not an option. Exact dates are set by the Saudi authorities each year.
The UK school calendar
- October half-term: a short but popular window for 7 to 9 night trips, with pleasant weather.
- Christmas holidays: great weather and the most popular time for families, so flights fill early.
- February half-term: in 2027 this falls in Ramadan, a rare chance for families.
- Easter holidays: depends on the Islamic calendar each year and can clash with the Hajj pause.
- Summer holidays: lower hotel prices and quieter mosques, but serious heat.
Our recommendation
For a first Umrah with parents or children, aim for November to February outside Ramadan. For the best price, consider January or early autumn outside the school holidays. For the greatest reward, Ramadan, if your budget and health allow.
